Getting to Garapan & West Saipan

Twenty-odd minutes from Saipan’s airport, with Beach Road linking everything along the coast.

Flights land at Francisco C. Ada Saipan International Airport (SPN) in the south of the island. Many hotels run or can arrange a shuttle if you ask in advance; otherwise taxis wait outside arrivals and hire car desks are in the terminal. The routes and flight times below are typical only — services to Saipan change often, some run just a few days a week, and you should check current timetables. Entry rules are covered in the travel guide, and flights between the islands in getting there.

Getting around Garapan & West Saipan

On foot: central Garapan is small enough to walk, and Micro Beach, American Memorial Park and the marina are all within about 15 minutes of the main hotels. The Beach Road pathway is pleasant early and late in the day; midday is hot and there is little shade.

No real bus system: Saipan has no public transport that visitors can rely on. Some hotels and duty-free shops run their own shuttles, and tour operators collect from hotel lobbies.

Taxis and car hire: taxis are available at hotels and the airport but are comparatively expensive, so agree or check the fare before setting off. A hire car is the easiest way to explore — you drive on the right under US road rules, speed limits are low and distances are short. Most visitors can drive on their home licence for a short stay; confirm with the rental company, and ask whether unpaved roads are allowed if you plan to head for the south and east.
